I'm an internet geek, a BMW enthusiast and I'm really into business, politics and philosophy. I love building websites, reading, writing and learning. I live in Auckland, New Zealand.
By day I work at Mighty Ape, voted New Zealand's "Best Shopping Site" at the 2009 and 2011 NetGuide Web Awards. We sell entertainment products including games, movies, books, music, toys and electronics. I'm responsible for ensuring our website continues to deliver a world-class online shopping experience for our customers. I also help with new product development, strategy, marketing, social media and customer service.
I continue to run nzflatmates, a site I built back in 2001 to help New Zealanders find better flats and flatmates. In 11 years more than 130,000 people have signed up and used the website. I built nzflatmates with a huge emphasis on matching people with flatmates they're more likely to get along with, because I believe that it's your flatmates – not the four walls around you – that makes flatting special.
In 2005 I also co-founded the online auction site Zillion with Simon Barton. We created Zillion to provide New Zealanders with an alternative online marketplace to Trade Me. Of all the websites I've been involved with, Zillion was the greatest challenge and provided the greatest learning opportunity. In 2006 we won the award for “Best New Site” at the 2006 NetGuide Web Awards. The business was sold to Sella in 2010.
When I'm not behind a screen I'm usually having fun behind the wheel of a BMW or singing for Auckland-based chamber choir Musica Sacra. When I grow up I want to move to Lake Como and write a novel.
